Goal of the Workshop

Robot vehicle platforms, often called “drones”, offer exciting new opportunities and their benefits are limited only by imagination. The recent and fast advances in drone technologies make them cost-effective and appealing for a wide range of applications including search and rescue, surveillance, 3D-mapping, construction monitoring, traffic monitoring, delivery of light-weight objects and products, and video production, and smart agriculture.

DroneSE aims to bring together different groups of qualified representatives worldwide, industry and academia, to discuss the current state of drone systems, and the roadmap to their full utilization in civilian and public domains. Special emphasis will be given to research opportunities on new computing paradigms and architectures/components for highly constrained intelligent embedded systems, and to ‘what comes next’ in terms of the essential technologies that need to be developed to advance the state-of-the-art.

List of Topics

DroneSE welcomes contributions dealing with all facets of drones systems, including but are not limited to:

  • System architecture and software design for efficient, safe, green and autonomous vehicles.
  • Hardware and software design for drone systems based on Multicore, FPGA, GPU and heterogeneous architectures.
  • Hardware and software solutions for run-time system management, power management, diagnostics and self-adaptation.
  • Technologies to increase drone safety and autonomy, including technologies for UAV communication
  • Safety and security assessment and detection of security threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Safe human-machine interaction in automated decision-making systems.
  • Safety in AI-based system architectures.
  • Neural Networks, Machine and Deep Learning for drones applications
  • Drone systems’ modeling, simulation, code generation, verification, and validation
  • Agile engineering methods for cyber-physical systems

Submission Guidelines

DroneSE 2022 will accept full papers (10-pages) that are original and unpublished scientific contributions, as well as short papers (6-pages) reporting on industrial experiences and pilots. Contributions should be written in English and be prepared using ACM LaTeX template https://www.acm.org/binaries/content/assets/publications/consolidated-tex-template/acmart-primary.zip

Papers will be reviewed by the workshop’s program committee according to criteria regarding the submission’s quality, relevance to the workshop’s topics, and foremost its potential to spark discussions about directions, insights, and solutions in the context of new computing paradigms and architectures/components for highly constrained intelligent embedded systems. Research papers, case studies, and position papers are all welcome. In particular, to facilitate sharing of thought-provoking ideas and high potential though preliminary research, authors are welcome to make submissions describing early-stage, in-progress, and/or exploratory work in order to elicit feedback, discover collaboration opportunities, and spark productive discussions.

The paper submission will be conducted using the EasyChair conference manager. Papers should be submitted in PDF format. The submission Web page for DroneSE-2022 is https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=dronese2022

Important dates

  • Papers submission deadline: Nov. 07, 2021
  • Papers notification to authors: Nov. 21, 2021
  • Final version of accepted papers: Nov. 28, 2021

Publication

Accepted submissions of DroneSE 2022 will be published by ACM Digital Library, the ISBN number assigned to DroneSE ’22 is 978-1-4503-9566-3. Authors of accepted papers are required to ensure that at least one of them will be present at the workshop. Authors will be notified of this decision before the workshop and invited to submit a revised version of their contributions in the weeks after notification.

Venue

DroneSE is a full day workshop scheduled for January 17, 2022 and it will held in conjunction with the 17th HiPEAC conference (https://www.hipeac.net/2022/budapest/#/ ). The HiPEAC 2022 conference will be held in Budapest, Hungary from January 17 to January 19, 2022 (Novotel Budapest City).

The HiPEAC organizing committee is carefully following the COVID-19 challenge. We prefer a physical HiPEAC conference with physical workshops and tutorials. This includes that the room capacities and styles can change until January, according to the actual regulations.

Contact

All questions about submissions should be emailed to Reda Nouacer (reda.nouacer@cea.fr )

Sponsors

The DroneSE workshop is connected to the COMP4DRONES project (https://www.comp4drones.eu/ ). This project has received funding from the ECSEL Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 826610. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and Spain, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands. The project has been started on 1st October 2019.
