Dr Filippo Gambella together with his collaborators dr. Alberto Sassu and dr. Luca Ghiani, presented the report entitled “Use of drones in agriculture: technologies and use”.
The teacher presented some new research carried out by the Mechanization and plant engineering section of the Department of Agriculture, starting his report by presenting the objectives of two projects.
The first whose acronym is COMP4DRONES was financed by the ECSEL measure within the European program H2020 and has among its objectives that of making “robotic” aerial robotic systems “dialogue” with robotic vehicles used on the ground “Ground Robots” for the control and the management of weeds in viticultural and horticultural environments and vegeto-productive monitoring.
The second funded by MIUR PRIN 2017 entitled “New technical and operational solutions for the use of drones in Agriculture 4.0” has as its objective the construction and prototyping of pesticide distribution systems to be used implemented on drones or robotic vehicles used in land.
The relationship continued with the presentation of some case studies of the use of drones on arboreal cultivation systems (vineyards) and on herbaceous cultivation systems.
Some applications of drones have been presented concerning the determination of the leaf volume in the vineyard and in herbaceous cultivation systems in order to program the management of the treatments with greater precision.
The preparation of a system for “reading-interpretation” was also presented through the acquisition of photographs of the water-sensitive maps arranged in the field which can be implemented on a smartphone to control the operation and efficiency of the plant protection distribution systems .
